Best Ways to Remove Algae?

One of my go-to tools is an algae scraper, but I’ve found there is always a bit of a risk if the blade scratches the surface.

What about you all?

I have a heavily planted 12 gallon long (36 in) tank.
It became quickly overrun with algae. Both the green stuff on the glass and the stringy, green slimy goop all over the plants! So much so that you could no longer see what plants were in there.
I decided on the natural route and bought 3 Siamese algae eaters and some snails. The SAE’S themselves cleared up all the slimy goop in two weeks! Now I have to throw in the occasional algae tabs to keep them fed.

I use a melamine sponge and additional filter floss media. The sponge is gentle enough on surfaces but is able to get algae. Also added floating plants that can reduce the lighting and take up excess nutrients in the water column. Can’t forget about the nerite snails! These critters are so efficient eating algae and left over food, they’re so fun to watch too.
