Best Fish for a 20-Gallon Tank

What do you think are the best fish for a 20-gallon tank?

I’ll start with one of my favorites: the Blue Emperor Tetra (photo below ). They’re active, colorful, and thrive in a small school, making them a great fit for this tank size.

What species have worked well in your 20-gallon setups? Feel free to share your experiences, tips, and photos!

I like rasboras and my current favorites are the purple harlequin rasboras! They’re fast growers and the purple really stands out against their silver bodies.
Make sure to get 4 or more as they are schoolers.

Almost any assortment of fish in a 20 gallon tank would be complimented with a couple Cory cats. They are active, comical, cute and will liven up your tank, not to mention helping with the clean up of any uneaten food.

I think corydoras, neocaridina, endlers and dwarf neon rainbowfish are a great mix for this size tank.

If you have a planted tank, Badis Badis (or scarlet Badis) would be an excellent choice.

I love my snails in my smaller tanks. I have rabbit in one and mystery in the other

My favorite for a 20 gallon, aside from guppies, are the Black phantom Tetra. Any tetra is good but the Black phantom give fast moving life to any tank as they zip throughout the tank. They do well in groups of at least 5 and with other nano fish.
